SAMMY
BREED: Shepherd / Heeler mix
GENDER: Male
APPROX AGE: 4 years old
SIZE: 60lbs
HISTORY: Sammy was pulled from a high-kill shelter, probably never would of had a chance at a life, being due to nco spay and neuter laws, there are too many dogs needing homes and not enough people to adopt.
TEMPERAMENT: Sammy is a very intelligent, quick learning, wanting to please type dog. He has lots of energy to play with other dogs, hike, and run. Sammy enjoys his crate, meaning, crate trained. He is also housebroken and good around most all dogs and cats. He does need someone to give him more obedience type training, leadership, and rules and boundaries. He loves to play ball and is a water dog. Sammy also would be a good guard dog for someone that wants protection in their home from burglars. This handsome boy is a good house dogs, enjoys lounging around the house, and can be left on his own while an owner is at work. Sammy also recently was in an Albertan film a 3 part Discovery mini-series, doing extremely well on the set around many strange people, crew, and large and noisy equipment. He also worked like a pro on cue "Action!" around very large dogs, horses and donkeys.

ZORRA
BREED: Great Pyranees / Shepherd mix
GENDER: Female
APPROX AGE: 2 1/2 - 3 years old
SIZE: Large
HISTORY: Zorra was rescued by Pawsitive Match along with two of Zorra's surviving puppies. A volunteer brought them from Edmonton to our sanctuary. Zorra had lived on the Hobema Reservation, probably tied up much of the time, due to some broken teeth where she had tried to chew through chain. She may need dental work. Her puppies are now old enough for adoption. Zorra is a great mom, and also lays down to nurse other puppies here! We Love her! She is the sweetest, easy-going big dog ever!
TEMPERAMENT: Zorra is extremely sweet, mild mannered, calm, quiet, and caring.

GOMEZ
BREED: Husky / Heeler mix
GENDER: Male
APPROX AGE: 8 weeks old (born approx Feb 14, 2013)
SIZE: Large (when full grown)
HISTORY: Their mother Goldilocks was found on the Stoney Nakoda Reservation living at a family's home. Certainly not her first time being a mother, she had just recently had another litter of 9 puppies she was desperately trying to keep from freezing and feed under a cement step on the ice cold ground in the midst of a cold Alberta winter. Not all of her puppies were fairing very well as it was such a large litter for Goldilocks to try and care for when she was skin and bones, starving and freezing herself. Our Director was able to talk to the family and convince them these puppies needed to be inside to survive and the mother needed better nutrition and hydration to be able to continue caring for her young.
TEMPERAMENT: Gomez is a lively little puppy. He is the largest of this litter, very intelligent and high ranking. Quite adventurous and curious to discover new things.

GOLDILOCKS
BREED: Husky / Heeler mix
GENDER: Female
APPROX AGE: 2 1/2 - 3 years old
SIZE: Large

TEMPERAMENT: Goldilocks is a very loyal and protective mum to her 9 puppies.

HEIDI 2
BREED: Lurcher
GENDER: Female
APPROX AGE: 1 year old
SIZE: Large
HISTORY: Rescued in Iraq by a Canadian working there and found Heidi tied to a sewage drain pipe, starving. Dogs in Iraq are tormented by adults and children due to their religious beliefs that dogs are "dirty". Dogs are beaten, thrown stones at, basically, treated extrememly inhumanely and many are beaten to death.
TEMPERAMENT: Heidi is a young, tall, striking looking dog with a lot of energy. She is outgoing, curious and very bright, has the longest curliest tail you ever did see, and is a very fast learner. She is well suited for an adopter that has a ranch or farm, or someone that likes backcountry hiking, ski-jouring, snow-shoeing and running. Heidi needs an adopter that has strong leadership qualities (not for first time pet owner). Heidi is half Saluki, which was bred to guard and good at keeping preditors away if you have farm animals. Heidi is calm in the house, happy to chew on a bone and lay around after a good run or bike ride. She enjoys playing with other large dogs, but just as content to be the only dog. Heidi is good on her own and can be left for many hours without company.
PRE ADOPTION:
- Some of the small dogs posted have recently been rescued and in process of getting spayed or neutered and not yet flown to Canada. Adopters can pre-adopt a pet prior to arrival.
- Pre-adoption involves an adopter putting down half the cost of transport and reimbursement of spay/neuter, vaccinations, etc., and pay balance upon meeting the pet. If for some reason an adopted dog doesn't work out the pet can be returned to Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue. Policy information is listed on the Adoption Agreement on adoption page.
- Upon arrival in Canada, dogs can be transported to adopter's city if adopter wishes to make transport arrangements and pay additional transport costs.
