Welcome to Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue!
All that is needed for evil to succeed is, that decent human beings do nothing ~ Edmund Burke

Foster care for Pumpkin, a German Shepherd listed in the Medium dog adoption section; someone with no dogs or cats.

Founder, Calgary Dog Behaviorist & Trainer, Rory O' Neill, has rescued many highly adoptable dogs from the local Reserve, Morley. As heartbreaking as it is, some pet owners in nearby cities who no longer want their pets abandon them in the small town of Morley near Calgary. Dogs and cats are often abandoned many places in the world, usually unspayed and unneutered, puppies and kittens are born, often in the freezing snow and below zero, to starve and freeze with their parents, or grow up timid of people and live a lonely life of severe deprivation. Without human touch, domesticated animals grow up feral and live a life of suffering.
Many previously owned dogs are abandoned by their owners, as well as breeders who don't want the animals if they're not purchased before kitty or puppyhood or the older ones they replace with younger breeding animals. These dogs and cats, if they are lucky enough to be found and rescued, often have post traumatic stress due to the sudden shock of abandonment, fear and uncertainty, loneliness (dogs are pack animals and cats crave companionship and warmth), lack of shelter all the while trying to get out of the freezing cold with no where to go except under dilapidated windblown houses, dig out snow and make a bed near trees, or in a snowbank with another dog trying to get warm. Many dogs have no undercoats, and suffer even more, especially when becoming sick or injured. Cats suffer from constant hunger and forced to live in miserably cold weather in the winter where they can never get warm.
These animals, beautiful inside and out, are incredibly grateful after rescue. Rescued dogs and cats make the best pets! (It's a fallicy that they were abused therefore exhibit unwanted behavior). They are easily trainable, eager to learn, and so thankful for being treated with dignity, given food and a chance at rehabilitation. With a little dedication, veterinary care, and a bath, these pets rebound quickly with new rules, boundaries, appropriate discipline and TLC!

R-mar also helps chihuahuas and small mix breeds in the Tijuana pound, a Mexican border town near California where street dogs are ruthlessly "rounded up" and thrown into the "pererra". The dogs are not given food or water and heartlessly killed and in front of all the other dozens of frightened, homeless dogs if no brave soul ventures into the saddest place on Earth and takes them out. (Hence, one reason not to buy from a puppy mill, breeder or pet store!) Working together with a Mexican and California rescue group who works endless hours devoted to saving animals, pulls as many as possible from the Tijuana pound, and together coordinate transport from Mexico to California and on to Canada for adoption. (Takes many people, fosterers, vets and money to save even one stray dog, doomed until someone cares.)
Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue also provides information for concerned humans to learn about the severe suffering of many of the animals on our planet, the cruelty towards animals by some humans, and what caring people can do to help. Calgary Dog Trainer and Behaviourist Rory O'Neill, also counsels pet owners facing behavioural problems with their dog.
