Success Stories - Homer, the Lucky Llama

He is your friend, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. ~ Author Unknown

1st attempt - July 21, 2009

Three llamas were driven to Morley, AB and abandoned in December, two of which died from extreme exposure in January 2009. A local native called to report the lonely llama who is clearly distressed and sad. We named the surviving llama, Homer, after the native who owns the land and called for help. Homer the llama stands by the fence all day, stares over it, across the horizon. You can see from the photo he also has no shelter or food except grass.

Since llamas are only content living with at least one other llama, someone with two others has offered to give Homer a home. Volunteers are getting a horse trailer and corraling Homer to it to take him to the ranch, where he'll have company, good food and shelter.

2nd attempt - August 08, 2009

Due to an unexpected interuption on July 21, we were unable to complete the rescue of Homer. By August 08, Homer had been released from his containment by an undetermined interferrance, presumably to wander the highway in order to prevent his rescue. Fortunately he found safety in a field of cows surrounding an abandoned Casino building on the Morely Reserve. A new trailer was brought in from the Bear Valley Rescue, who specialized in rescuing unwanted horses for slaughter.
