He is your friend, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion. ~ Author Unknown
Four Huskies were rescued after years of being chained to houses and tires; with no human touch or socialization. With the help of other shelters acrossAlberta, the majority of the dogs are now in "real" homes. A few had to be humanely euthanized due to terminal cancer and extreme illness. A few of the older ones will be spending the rest of their twilight years in the hearts and homes of Prairie Animal Rescue Society (PARS) volunteers who saw a beautiful soul under all the matted hair and growls.
Mike Tyson (aptly named) is one of those dogs. He is about 8 years old; he was chained to a tire for 6 years with no physical contact with any other living creatures. After he was rescued, he would shake in the corner of the pen when someone entered, ran only in circles even on a leash, and was very dog aggressive. Thanks to donations to PARS; he was able to be neutered which has tamed down the aggression drastically. He is making amazing strides at trusting people, wags his tail when he sees "his" people, is starting to enjoy being touched and only runs in circles when he is excited. The picture of the collar shows the groove in the ring that the chain had worn into it; almost all of the way through. He now and will always enjoy freedom from a collar, and gets daily offleash runs of several miles along with socialization with other dogs; who he actually likes to play with. This rescue was possible because of public donations to cover the costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinating, microchipping, deworming and all of the other medical care for the dogs. PARS thanks you, but most of all; the dogs thank you. You have helped release them from a life of misery and delivered them into a life of comfort and love.
