Zander

BREED: Husky
GENDER: Male
AGE: 6 years
SIZE/WEIGHT: 55 pounds
HISTORY: Until the last year, for 4.5 years he was tied to a tree or in a concrete dungeon in extreme heat. Particularly miserable for a double coated Dogg like Zander. Zander was a Christmas present to a young family in Mexico, where the weather is often very hot and not ideal for huskies. The family, especially the kids, loved and doted on Zander when he was a puppy. When he got bigger the kids lost interest in Zander. Because they lived in a house with a big yard and no fence to prevent Zander from escaping, they would tie Zander up to a tree for hours. Eventually Zander spent most of his days tied up sad and alone, and his carefree puppy days surrounded by love long gone. A dog rescuer who lived near Zander saw how sad and dejected he was – tied to a tree whether rain or shine, until she finally freed him and took him to the local dog shelter where she assumed he would find a home and be adopted straight away. Sadly, Zander’s situation did not improve at the shelter — instead of being tied to a tree, he ended up spending most of his days in a dark kennel more like a dungeon with only two hours free to play with other dogs. At this shelter he was fed, but that was pretty much it, the woman who owned the shelter got dementia and her workers did not give the dogs the attention and TLC they deserved. He was not brushed and his fur was matted very thick. Because he spent months in a dark dungeon and before that tied to a tree he does not trust people immediately. Zander dislikes leashes and you have to earn his trust to leash him up. You can now brush him, but only once you have earned his trust. Luckily since January of this year he has been at a wonderful dog training facility where they have a pool and he has the attention of a trainer who is leash and crate training him.
