FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

We are a private sanctuary near Canmore on Hwy. 1, 45 minutes outside of Calgary. Appointments are scheduled to meet and adopt pets, both at the sanctuary and in foster care. You must first complete an adoption application.

I have a question about an animal listed for adoption...

If the information is not listed on the animal’s profile, it is because we don’t have the information yet. Should you have any other inquiries about a specific animal, please complete an adoption application with the animal’s name. You can access the adoption application through the animal’s profile page. Someone will be in touch with you when your application is reviewed.

Why can I only ask a question about an animal by filling out an adoption application?

We receive hundreds of emails a day. We would love to answer everyone’s questions, but when it comes to questions about the animal, we need to allocate our time to serious adopters only.

May we come meet an animal today?

If you are interested in an animal, you must first complete an adoption application. We will do our best to review your application for a good match within 48 – 72 hours, but if you don’t hear from us beyond that, please follow up with an email through our Contact Form (select: Application Status) Once you have been approved, we will coordinate a good time for you to meet with the animal’s fosterer.

How much does it cost to adopt from you?

The adoption fee for each animal depends on where they come from, what sort of vet care they needed, and any special needs it may have. Fees typically start at $250.

I adopted an animal from you that wasn't spayed/neutered and put a deposit down. How do I get refunded?

We will be emailing you a link to a Refund of Deposit form. Please have a scanned copy of your spay/neuter certificate ready for upload.

I adopted an animal from you, but it isn't working out. Can I return the pet to you?

Yes. We actually prefer that adopters bring an animal back to us if it isn’t working out. Within 2 weeks, you will be refunded your adoption cost minus $150 for administration and counseling fees. Beyond 2 weeks, there is no refund.

I would like to surrender my pet to you...

We receive numerous requests per week to take people’s pets. We encourage pet owner’s to find a way to keep their pet if possible. Our director is a behaviour specialist and can help pet owner’s with behavioural problems in most cases. If interested, please send in a Behavioural Request Form.

We take in numerous surrendered pets per year, however, there simply isn’t enough space for all of them. We are not a shelter. We have a Foster Program where the pets live with families often with children and other cats and dogs until adopted. However, we never have enough fosterer’s considering the amount of people who want to surrender their pets. You are welcome to submit a Surrender Request form. This does not mean we can take your pet, however, we can review to see if we have the resources with an appropriate foster home, and space and time for rehabilitation if needed. Due to the extent of taking in someone else’s pet we request in most cases a $250 surrender fee.

Do you offer part-time or full-time employment?

No. We are a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers.

I'm working on a story/article/school project. Who can I talk to about R-mar?

Please email development(at)rockymountainanimalrescue(.)com with the information you’re looking for, and we’ll put you in touch with the right people.
