Maggie (AKA Madgelena), Apollo’s mom, was flown from a remote First Nation in Northern Saskatchewan by a doctor, determined to rescue numerous lost dogs. After landing in Regina the dogs were then driven to Rocky Mountain Animal Rescue. The story struck a chord with us and so we immediately decided to foster her. Six days after picking Maggie up, with a vet visit in between to start her shots, she surprised us and had two beautiful, male puppies.
Apollo’s lineage is anyone’s guess but our best guess is husky (dad) with some labrador and shepherd (mom). Every day Apollo gets noticeably bigger. His noises are getting louder and more animated from soft grunts to little raccoon like calls to small barks. But otherwise, is quiet unless hungry or Maggie walks by.
Being the larger, and fluffier of the two, Apollo is most likely to tackle his brother, Zeus, and initiate playtime. He is also most likely to nose his way into his brother’s food bowl. Apollo and his brother spend a lot of time outside on the grass in a penned in area. When allowed to explore outside the pen he often wanders back in to where he knows it’s safe. He will play hard for a few minutes then, when his brother wanders off, he seems to miss having Zeus close by. Not long after this it’s naptime, yet again. He loves to snuggle up in the box with a blanket and his brother. Even a safe corner will do. Play hard, nap hard is his motto.
